Learn to Think Like a Formulator And Not Just Follow a Recipe

You have watched the tutorials. You have followed the recipes. You have bought the ingredients and made the products.

And somewhere along the way, something went wrong and you had no idea why.

That is not a skill problem. That is a knowledge problem. And this course fixes it at the root.

This is not a recipe course.

Course 1 is where serious formulators are made. Not the kind who copy a formula from a WhatsApp group and hope it works. The kind who understand exactly why every ingredient is in a formula, what happens when something goes wrong, and how to fix it before it ever reaches a customer.

This is the foundation course of the A.M.E.N Formulation Hub Academy Formulator Track, and it is the only starting point for students who are serious about the craft.

What you will learn:

You will spend 6 to 8 weeks building the formulation intelligence that most self-taught formulators spend years trying to piece together on their own.

You will understand skin biology the way a formulator needs to, not as an anatomy lesson but as a decision-making tool. You will learn the chemistry behind emulsions, surfactants, pH, and preservation, not to memorise it, but to use it. You will learn how to read an INCI list like a professional, evaluate ingredients by evidence rather than trend, and understand why formulas fail before you ever experience that failure in your own lab.

And then you will build. Five complete product types, designed by you, from a brief, with a reason behind every single decision.

By the time you complete this course, you will be able to:

• Read and interpret any INCI list with genuine confidence
• Explain the role of every ingredient category in a cosmetic formula
• Design gel and emulsion-based formulas using sound formulation logic
• Identify why formulas fail and troubleshoot stability, preservation, and compatibility issues
• Make evidence-based ingredient choices instead of trend-driven ones
• Understand your regulatory obligations across key international markets including the EU, FDA, and NAFDAC
• Set up a functional home or small-scale lab using locally and internationally sourced materials

What you will formulate:

• Gel Cleanser, sulfate-free and sulfate-based
• Emulsion Cleanser
• Toner and Essence
• Gel Serum
• Cream Emulsion

Five products. One coherent beginner formulation system. Built by you, from logic, not from a template.

BONUS: Exclusive Pre-Recorded Class

Enrolled students also receive access to an additional pre-recorded bonus class at no extra cost:

Body Oil Making Class: Learn to formulate a professional-grade body oil from scratch, with the right emollient selection, skin-feel engineering, and preservation strategy for an anhydrous formula.

This is not an afterthought but a practical skill that extend your formulation range from the moment you complete them.

This course is for you if:

You are a complete beginner who has never formulated anything and wants to start correctly. You are a self-taught formulator who knows something is missing in your foundation. You are a beauty professional who wants to understand the science behind what you recommend. You are a brand founder who wants to stop depending entirely on others to make your product decisions.

This course is not for you if you are looking for quick recipes, trending DIY content, or a shortcut into the beauty industry. There are no shortcuts here. Only understanding, and the confidence that comes with it.

ORIENTATION WEEK– Welcome to the Formulator’s Mindset
Before the science begins, you begin. This week is about setting the tone, preparing your workspace, and building the professional mindset that will carry you through every module ahead. You will meet the Formulator’s Code, get your ingredients toolkit in order, and download your first set of resources. No assessment this week. Just preparation, intention, and the foundation for everything that follows.

  • Lesson OW.1: Welcome and Course Overview
  • Lesson OW.2: How to Use This Course
  • Lesson OW.3: The Formulator’s Code
  • Lesson OW.4: Meet Your Ingredients Toolkit

MODULE 1– Skin Science for Formulators: What You Must Know Before You Mix Anything
You cannot formulate intelligently for something you do not understand. This module teaches you skin biology not as anatomy, but as formulation intelligence. Every concept you learn here connects directly to a product decision you will make later in this course. From the stratum corneum to the skin microbiome, from melanin-rich skin biology to the skin barrier, you will finish this module reading the skin like a formulator reads a brief.

MODULE 2: Cosmetic Chemistry Fundamentals: The Science Behind Every Formula
This is the intellectual engine of Course 1. Here you learn the chemistry that governs how every cosmetic product is built: emulsions, surfactants, pH systems, rheology, solvents, and ingredient interactions. The goal is not memorisation. It is understanding the logic of formulation so deeply that you can troubleshoot, adapt, and design, not just copy. By the end of this module, chemistry stops being intimidating and starts being your most powerful formulation tool.

MODULE 3: Ingredient Science and Selection Logic: Evidence Over Hype
This is where you learn to evaluate ingredients the way a trained formulator does, not by what is trending, but by what the science actually says. You will work through every major ingredient category: humectants, emollients, occlusives, actives, and ingredients of concern. You will learn how to read an INCI list like a professional, assess evidence levels honestly, and make ingredient decisions that serve your formula and your client, not your marketing copy.

MODULE 4: Formulation Design Thinking: Build a Product from Logic, Not a Template
This is where everything becomes real. You move from understanding science to actually building products. You will learn how to write a formulation brief, understand formula architecture, and design five product types from the ground up: a gel cleanser, an emulsion cleanser, a toner and essence, a gel serum, and a cream emulsion. Every formula is built from logic, not copied from a template. Every decision has a reason. This is where you start thinking like a formulator.

MODULE 5 Safety, Stability and Preservation: The Formulator’s Non-Negotiables
This module covers what separates an amateur product from a professionally safe one. Preservation failure causes infections. Stability failure causes harm. pH errors reduce efficacy and compromise safety. None of this is optional and none of it is an afterthought. You will learn how preservation systems work, how to build antioxidant strategies into your formulas, how to run basic stability testing, and how to identify formulation conflicts before they reach a customer.

MODULE 6 Regulation, Lab Setup and Final Formulas: From Learning to Practice
The final module bridges the gap between learning and doing. You will get a clear overview of the regulatory frameworks that govern cosmetic products across the EU, FDA, and NAFDAC. You will learn what you can and cannot claim, how to set up a functional practice lab, and how to complete your final cream emulsion formula. The module closes with your capstone project, the prerequisite for your Certificate of Completion, where you bring all five product types together as a coherent, professionally documented formulation portfolio.
